Victims of last month’s severe storms are now eligible for FEMA assistance in 24 more counties.
That includes Breckinridge, Bullitt, Calloway, Daviess, Garrard, Grayson, Hancock, Hart, Henderson, Henry, Jefferson, LaRue, Lincoln, McLean, Meade, Muhlenberg, Nelson, Ohio, Oldham, Pendleton, Powell, Trimble, Warren, and Webster counties.
That expands the list from a group of 13 counties, mostly in central and western Kentucky. That list includes Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen and Woodford counties.
FEMA spokesperson Maria Padron says the agency expects to set up disaster recovery centers in a handful of those counties by this weekend.
“Whenever we find damages in the most impacted areas, we're going to open as many as there are needed,” Padron said.
The deadline to apply for assistance is June 25. Padron says it’s important to check if you're eligible, and not wait to apply.
“People should apply as soon as possible, because the deadline is around the corner,” she said. “So they always can give us a call to update their application if they have any concerns or questions.”
Those affected can also apply online, through the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 or by downloading the mobile app.
