The National Weather Service says severe storms could hit central Kentucky Friday. They’re expected to hit the region between 3 and 6 p.m. and continue through the evening.

NWS meteorologist Samantha Wilson says heavy winds are the main threat.

“We could see some downed trees, power lines, some roof damage, things like that. Also, we can see some very large hail. So we're thinking ping pong-sized hail or a little bit larger.,” Wilson said.

Lightning, heavy rainfall and flash floods are also possible, though floods aren’t likely.

“We are not expecting a high flash flood rate at all. It would just be if a storm really trains over one area for a while, or one area sees multiple rounds of rain,” Wilson said.

Wilson says to stay weather aware as the forecast continues to update. That means keeping weather alerts enabled on mobile devices, keeping a weather radio on and keeping up to date with local meteorologists.
