Thefts at Walmart

Monday’s early morning theft of Apple iPads and other electronics from Winchester’s Walmart was not an isolated incident.  Police believe the suspects, a man and woman, have robbed four other Walmarts in the region in recent days.  The suspects, who have not been identified, entered Winchester’s store around 5 a.m. Monday, Winchester Police Detective Dennis Briscoe said. They went to the electronics section, opened one of the cases and took approximately $4,000 in merchandise including iPads, he said, but the exact list of what was taken has not been finalized.
The suspects then took the merchandise to the lawn and garden section and pushed it under the fence outside, he said. They then left the store, got in a Chevrolet 1500 Z71 pickup truck, loaded the merchandise and left, he said.

Briscoe did not say how they gained entry to the case in the Winchester store.

The couple, who were recorded on surveillance video, are believed to have robbed Walmarts in Richmond, Nicholasville and two in Lexington in recent days.

Some of the items taken in those thefts included rifle scopes and magnetic keys to open cabinets, Briscoe said. They may have been responsible for more thefts as well, he said.

They are believed to be driving either a tan or champagne-colored Chevrolet Blazer or the dark-colored Chevrolet pickup truck that was used in the Winchester theft. The suspects have worn the same clothes in the other thefts, he said.

Anyone with information on the thefts or the suspects can call the Winchester Police Department at 745-7400.
