
Mike Savage
Director & General ManagerMike Savage joined WEKU in 2018 as Director & General Manager. He has worked in public radio for more than 30 years, leading public radio stations in Georgia, Illinois, and Indiana. As WEKU's Director & General Manager, Mike oversees all station operations, including development, programming, and news.
Mike serves on the Association of Kentucky Public Radio Stations (Kentucky Public Radio) board. He recently concluded nine years of service on the NPR Board of Directors. While on the Board, Mike served as the Chair of the Distribution and Interconnection Committee, which governs the Public Radio Satellite System. Mike is the only station manager to have been elected to the NPR Board by station petition twice, in 2014 and 2019.
Mike holds a Master's degree in Mass Communication and a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, and has been honored with numerous journalism awards by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press. Mike has been named one of the best managers in radio by Radio Ink Magazine five times since 2015. In 2024 and 2025, Mike received the Kentucky Broadcasters Association's Broadcast Leadership award for his leadership and innovation in the broadcast industry.
