Governor Beshear calls Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s attempt to block all his COVID-19 orders and prohibit the issuance of new ones “truly frightening.”
The legal case is being heard in Boone Circuit Court. If the A-G’s legal challenge is successful, Beshear said during Thursday’s briefing, he fears the loss of life could increase. “No rules. Companies wouldn’t even have to sanitize or use hand sanitizer. No masks. Just the wild west,” said Beshear.
According to the Lexington-Herald, Cameron said in a tweet the court filing is aimed at protecting the rights of Kentuckians and ensuring that the process used by the governor to issue executive orders complies with the law.
Beshear reported 413 new coronavirus cases Thursday along with five deaths. The governor said the new cases of COVID-19 included 13 children under age five.
Governor Beshear says gains are being made in the effort to process thousands of unemployment claims filed by Kentuckians affected by coronavirus. During his briefing the governor said newly contracted Ernest and Young employees had worked through more than 10,000 outstanding claims. Beshear said the professional services firm expects to resolve some 4000 claims per day. “But if you think about 4000 claims a day and that’s not even including some of our folks, you can catch up really, really fast which is what we want to do,” explained Beshear.
Beshear said Ernest and Young expanded work days from eight to ten hours and added Saturdays.
