WEKU's Tom Martin has received the 2026 Media and Technology Award from the Eastern Kentucky Leadership Foundation.

The award recognizes Martin's outstanding contributions to the understanding of the Eastern Kentucky region through the Eastern Standard radio program. The foundation said, "In receiving this award, you join the ranks of Eastern Kentucky’s most exemplary leaders and organizations."

WEKU Director and General Manager Mike Savage said Martin has worked tirelessly to make Eastern Standard a well-produced and informative public affairs program.

"Tom is a great journalist who drives for the truth. He really cares about the issues affecting the commonwealth, especially Eastern Kentucky. He is fully deserving of this recognition."

Martin has been producing and hosting Eastern Standard since 2017.

The award was presented to Martin at the 38th annual Eastern Kentucky Leadership Conference in Berea on Thursday.

Mike Savage joined WEKU in 2018 as Director & General Manager. He has worked in public radio for 30 years and has managed public radio stations in Georgia, Illinois and Indiana. In his current role as WEKU's Director & General Manager, Mike directs station operations, programming, news and fundraising.
