Trinity Gay, Daughter of Olympic Sprinter, Dies in Shooting

The 15-year-old daughter of Olympian Tyson Gay was killed in a shooting in Lexington early Sunday morning. According to the Fayette County Coroner, Trinity Gay died at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after a shooting at Cook Out restaurant on South Broadway.  

Trinity Gaywas shot in the neck about 4 a.m., police said.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Trinity was a top sprinter for Lafayette High School, where her father Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay also attended.

Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner Julian Tackett tweeted that he was “Shocked to hear of death of Trinity Gay. A life of such potential cut so tragically short. Sympathies to Tyson and entire family."

The 15-year-old was apparently struck by gunfire exchanged between two vehicles at the restaurant on South Broadway, a gray Dodge Charger and a dark-colored sports car with tinted windows.

Officers located the Dodge Charger and detained two possible persons of interest for questioning. Police are still working to locate the other vehicle involved.
