The president of Toyota’s Georgetown plant said the move to an only-hybrid Camry is part of the company’s plan to reduce carbon as much as possible, as soon as possible. Kerry Creech said every Camry sold in North America is made in Georgetown, and the new model will help the company move towards carbon neutrality.

“The Camry sales yearly are, you know, probably 300,000-plus. And that is a very large segment of the cars that Toyota sells in the US.”

Creech began working at Toyota’s Georgetown plant in 1990 – two years after the first Camry rolled off the assembly line. He was named plant president last year and said he has no concerns that the 2025 Camry won’t be as reliable and durable as past models.

“The new Camry, the hybrid system is the new fifth generation hybrid system for Toyota, and the performance, the braking performance, the overall handling of the vehicle, and just the overall performance. Acceleration is better.”

Asked about unionization efforts for the 10,000 workers at the Georgetown plant, Creech said he and company officials aren’t anti-union – they just feel there doesn’t need to be a third party representing what the company calls team members.
