Attorneys have filed a lawsuit on behalf of a female high school athlete who was allegedly sexually abused by a former high school basketball coach in Eastern Kentucky.

The lawsuit names the 39-year-old former coach Andrew Zaheri, Rowan County School Board, Rowan County High School principal Jordan Mann, and school superintendent John Maxey.

Zaheri was recently indicted on 23 felony counts arising out of his alleged abuse of the victim.

A press release from the lawyers claims the other defendants are listed because each received and disregarded several reports from concerned individuals regarding Zaheri’s relations with the victim.

The lawsuit seeks damages for the harm caused to the victim, as well as punitive damages to deter similar conduct in the future.

WEKU reached out to the Rowan County Board of Education, and they declined to comment on the suit citing an ongoing investigation.
