Fancy Farm Picnic chairman Mark Wilson says the non-election year will make this summer’s event a little different.

The annual political gathering usually invites speakers on the ballot in Graves County. But since there are no ballots this year, Wilson said politicians who already hold office in Kentucky are being invited to speak.

“We’ve been through maybe two non-election years before and we’ve always filled the roster up."Wilson said. "We have to go outside of the norm a little bit since we don’t have candidates we want to get an hour and a half, two hours into the program.”

Wilson said the committee may invite a national political figure or non-office holders who would not normally fit into the schedule due to time constraints. The Fancy Farm Picnic is August 5. The event is a fundraiser for Saint Jerome Catholic Church.
