Health care professionals at the University of Kentucky Hospital are working to ease any concerns about emergency room care during coronavirus.
During an afternoon briefing Friday, Emergency Physician Joel Hamm said currently there are two emergency departments, one for COVID-19 patients and the second for other patients. UK Assistant Medical Director of Emergency Medicine, Daniel Moore said he’s confident the process is working. “So, the likelihood that you’re going to interact as a susceptible individual in our emergency department right now is probably less likely than you interacting in the public with a patient that has coronavirus. And I can say that pretty confidently at the moment,” said Moore.
Assistant Medical Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine Gena Cooper noted the same caregiving technique is used for children. She says most children with coronavirus exhibit mild symptoms. Cooper says, thus far, one child under age ten has tested positive at the hospital.
