EKU Dance Team Repeating Beautiful Lives Project

beautifullives.org

Eastern Kentucky University’s dance team is again partnering with the Beautiful Lives Project to give disabled individuals the opportunity to perform with the team.

The performances are scheduled Jan. 4 during EKU men’s and women’s basketball games.

The EKU team will choreograph a dance to include the participants.  Sixteen folks ranging in age from eight to 44, will attend dance practice with the team on Jan. 3.  The event has grown by 10 compared to last year’s inaugural collaboration.  Eastern Dance Team Coach Bettina Rogers said dancers take the lead on this project. “They’re the ones, they pick out the music, they cut the music, they choreograph it, and then they actually teach it that night,” added Rogers.

Rogers noted the hope is to expand participation each year.  She said maybe such an event can be staged at an EKU football game next year.

The Beautiful Lives Project gives disabled individuals the opportunity to participate in a variety of inclusive events including cheerleading, sports teams, and ballet.
