Law Enforcement Round Table In Lexington Focuses On Border Security

Stu Johnson

A round table discussion about border security Wednesday brought law enforcement officials from several central Kentucky counties together.

David Charles is the retired chief of police in Mount Sterling.  He says drugs coming from outside the state’s border are of utmost concern. “There’s not poppy plant fields, there’s no coco fields or any of those production facilities in this state or in this country.  They’re having to come in from out of the country.  And that’s one of the reasons why we need to secure our borders.”

In addition to Congressman Andy Barr, law enforcement officials heard from Mike McCaul of Texas, who chairs the House Committee on Homeland Security.  He told the group a new border wall in highly populated areas can be effective in slowing down the number of people coming into the U.S.

Despite that claim, critics of the wall have suggested the plan is costly and an inefficient way of preventing illegal immigration.
