Kentucky Starts 2021 With Coronavirus Positivity Rate Above 10%

Governor Andy Beshear reported an increasing coronavirus positivity rate along with the new year.  For January 2, Kentucky reported 1470 new cases, 22 deaths and a positivity rate near 10.8%.  For January 1 the state saw 3,124 new cases, 14 deaths and a positivity rate of 10.32%.  And for December 31 Kentucky added 4,145 new cases, 39 deaths and a positivity rate of 9.89%

Beshear said "the state’s elevated positivity rate is likely due to some labs and public testing sites being closed over the holiday, which increases the percentage of tests conducted in medical settings where patients are experiencing symptoms and suspect they have the virus."
