What’s billed as the “World’s Longest Yard Sale” is underway with stops north to south throughout Kentucky. The annual event features sales sites, including many private homes, all along U.S. Highway 127, 690 miles from Michigan to Alabama.
Janett Marson is director of the Lake Cumberland Tourist Commission. She says vendors and buyers produce a significant economic impact all along 127 in the commonwealth. “People will stay multiple days and that is a lot of cash flow that we in Kentucky don’t normally get. It’s a big boost to the economy, as I said, no matter what city you’re in along the 127 route,” said Marson.
Marson says yard sale travelers are warned about potential traffic tie ups along the yard sale route. “So there is a lot of stop and go traffic, so we’re always telling people to be really careful if you’re traveling along 127. And of the course the 127 sale is a great place to find those unique items, antiques, hard to find things, things you didn’t even know you needed or wanted,” noted Marson.
The tourism official says the yard sale event gets “bigger every year.”
