The president of the Lexington Bluegrass Association of Realtors worries about future availability of land for building in Fayette County.
Ty Brown spoke last week to members of the Georgetown-Scott County Chamber of Commerce.
Brown says there’s a lot of land approved, plotted, and available in Scott County right now.
“Based on some numbers I’ve seen from the home builders, at the rate we go, we probably got about right around three years left of places to build new construction in Fayette County,” said Brown. “If you’re going for a ten-year plan, you’re seven years short, at the way we are right now.”
Lexington’s council is reviewing comprehensive plan goals and objectives that do not call for expanding the city boundary. Ty Brown says building on existing vacant lots carries a higher price.
“In general, infill development is more expensive per unit than expanding or building a traditional house would be out in a neighborhood that was just being built,” noted Brown
Brown continues to hope Lexington/Fayette County leaders will, in the end, opt for some expansion of the urban services boundary, which would clear the way for more housing construction in those areas.
