Kentucky veterans leaving Fort Knox and Fort Campbell are prime picks for jobs in the civilian workforce. That’s according to Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs Executive Director Colonel Blaine Hedges. He spoke to Paducah area business leaders Thursday about skills veterans have that may be appealing to employers.
“They show up on time, they’re drug-free, they’re very dependable, they’ve got superior communication skills. Anybody and everybody should be trying to fill their job shortages with veterans.” Hedges said.
Hedges said a recent job fair at Fort Campbell saw a monumental gain in the number of Kentucky employers present compared to years past. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the veteran unemployment rate is 3.9 percent. Hedges said west Kentucky is an ideal place for veterans to settle because people are friendly and the food is good.
