Ohio Gov. John Kasich probably isn't going to lose the votes of many Clevelanders, or Ohioans for that matter, with a resolution meant to stick it to NBA superstar LeBron James of the vanquished Miami Heat, there being no love lost between Ohioans and the basketball player who they feel abandoned them.
A resolution signed by Kasich that honors the Dallas Mavericks for beating the Heat to win the NBA championship included the following:
Whereas NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Dirk Nowitzki chose to resign with the Dallas Mavericks in the summer of 2010, forgoing free agency and keeping his talents in Dallas, thus remaining loyal to the team, city and fans for whom he played his entire career...
... Now, therefore, I John R. Kasich, Governor of the State of Ohio do hereby name the DALLAS MAVERICKS organization, family, friends and fans as honorary Ohioans, with all the honors and privileges and honors therein, for the day June 14, 2011.
Apparently for Kasich, a conservative Republican, the free market is one thing and free agency another, at least as it was practiced by one former Cleveland Cavalier.
