NWS forecasts high heat, humidity in upcoming days

The National Weather Service forecasts high heat and humidity starting Friday and through next week.

The NWS says Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to bring the highest temperatures, with highs above 90 degrees. Forecasters say it won’t be a true heat wave, but high humidity will make for “oppressive weather.” Local heat indices could be upwards of 100 degrees.

NWS meteorologist Mark Jarvis says parts of eastern Kentucky could get the highest temperatures, as well as parts of the Ohio border.

“I'd say generally east of Highway 15 from maybe Mount Sterling, down through Jackson, down to maybe Hazard, points east of there may have a pretty good shot at getting into the 90s before everybody else,” he said.

Jarvis says to stay indoors and in the air conditioning if possible. When outside, he recommends staying hydrated, limiting alcohol and wearing sunscreen.
