FEMA reminds April storm victims of immediate monetary assistance

FEMA.gov

Victims of April’s severe storms can apply for Serious Needs Assistance from FEMA.

That assistance is available immediately after a disaster is declared. Those eligible get a one-time payment of $770 dollars.

FEMA says the money is meant to help victims pay for expenses like food, water, baby formula and emergency supplies.

FEMA spokesperson Danny Bernardy says it’s also a gateway for other types of assistance.

“It's meant to be something that can be a bit more flexible, that can be dispersed quickly, you know, and that's in response to people's immediate needs.”

The deadline for serious needs assistance is May 24. The deadline for all other forms of individual assistance is June 25.

Victims can apply for assistance by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362, going online or downloading the mobile app.
