New disaster recovery centers open across Kentucky

FEMA.gov

New disaster recovery centers are opening across the state for victims of April floods.

They’re currently open in the 13 counties FEMA has designated eligible for victims to get assistance.

That includes Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen and Woodford counties.

Kentucky has requested eligibility for 16 other counties. Disaster recovery centers help flood victims with in-person support for programs like rental assistance or home repair.

25 centers are open statewide, with others remaining open to assist with February flood assistance.

FEMA spokesperson Danny Bernardy says they’re equipped to help with either disaster.

”Anybody can apply for either the February floods or the April floods at any of the disaster recovery centers,” Bernardy said. “If you were impacted by both floods, then you would need to submit applications separately for each one, but you could do it under the same roof.”

Some documents are needed depending on the type of assistance.

“It would be best to bring in some identification, your social security number, and ideally it would be good to bring some kind of a utility bill or some proof of your address, whether you rent or own,” Bernardy said.

The deadline to apply for February storm assistance is May 25. The deadline for April storm assistance is June 25.

Assistance is also available online, by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 or by downloading the mobile app.
