From May 1 to Sept. 30, outdoor burning of materials like tree limbs, leaves and brush is banned in six counties and part of another.

According to the state Energy and Environment Cabinet, Thursday is the beginning of ozone season in Kentucky.

According to the cabinet, ground-level ozone produced by outdoor burning is a problem for the more than 380,000 Kentuckians with asthma. From May 1st through September 30, outdoor burning of natural materials like brush, tree limbs and leaves is banned in Boone, Bullitt, Campbell, Kenton and Oldham counties and parts of Lawrence County. It’s not allowed year-round in Jefferson County. The director of the Division for Air Quality says these areas are more vulnerable to poor air quality during the summer months.
