The U.S. Small Business Administration is holding disaster recovery resource fairs in Hazard Wednesday and Pikeville Thursday for victims of the floods that hit eastern Kentucky in mid-February. Brian Beard is the lead public affairs specialist for the SBA’s Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience. He said the SBA loans can cover more than just property, inventory and equipment damage.
“We also have working capital loans so if a small business, even if it didn't have any physical damage, if they had a drop in sales as a result of the disaster, you can get a working capital loan to cover your monthly expenses until your business is back up to speed again.”
Beard said more than a dozen other organizations will also be on hand with a wide variety of assistance and advice.
“Whether it's immediate needs such as Red Cross or Goodwill or FEMA to, you know, who wants to make sure your home is safe and secure to live in, or organizations that help with housing, such as the Housing Development Alliance or even USDA Rural Development helps with housing in rural areas.”
Each fair is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. Hazard’s takes place at Hazard Community & Technical College and Pikeville’s will be at the Lee Avenue Branch of the Pike County Library.
