The Montgomery County Public School district is the latest to cancel classes after what the superintendent called unfounded rumors were shared on social media. Friday’s closure came three days after a student brought a loaded gun to a middle school there. Jennifer Ginn is the communications director for the state Department of Education.
“While we are concerned about the amount of time the students have been missing due to these hoaxes, our primary concern is the safety and well-being of the students and staff who are in those schools every day across Kentucky.”
In recent weeks, several public school districts have cancelled classes due to bomb and other threats.
“What we are asking is that our families talk with their students about the very real and serious consequences that can happen if they call in a threat against another student or their school.”
Ginn says those consequences include suspension, expulsion and criminal penalties.
