Decisions to be made about future land use at Millersburg fire site

More work will continue this week toward finding a cause for the fire that destroyed four buildings in downtown Millersburg last week. Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer David Jones said Friday, at this point in the investigation, foul play is not suspected. Jones noted electrical causes would certainly be considered possible in older historic buildings.

“They’ll look at all avenues. Obviously, that’s a good place to look to, you know, anything electrical. Like you said, they are older buildings, so that could be a place to look to,” said Jones.

Bourbon County Judge-Executive Mike Williams said what’s most important was there were no injuries in the fire. He added it’s too soon to think about what may become of that site in Millersburg.

“The property owners and the City of Millersburg will work toward making plans and hopefully some good things will come of the tragedy. Always are hopeful for that,” said Williams

One of the buildings destroyed in the Wednesday fire was the Millersburg post office. Beginning Monday, the post office will operate from a mobile unit on fifth street. Customers concerned about mail that may have been destroyed in the fire should consult with mobile unit workers.
