Eastern Kentucky University Athletics Director Steve Lochmueller has resigned. In a news release, the university says the former University of Kentucky athlete stepped down to pursue other opportunities.
Lochmueller came to the Richmond campus to serve as AD in 2015. He hired a number of coaches including football coach Mark Elder, men’s basketball coach A.W. Hamilton, and first year women’s basketball coach Samantha Williams.
In his resignation letter, Lochmueller said he’s particularly proud of success in the classroom, community, courts, and fields during the last four plus years.
Eastern says a national search will begin for his replacement. Former EKU Athletics Director Mark Sandy will serve as interim AD.
