New App, Expanded Tailgating For Keeneland's Fall Meet

Keeneland

Jockeys at Keeneland may be in high demand.  The fall meet opens Friday afternoon at the Lexington race track.  And, riders will likely spend the next couple weeks signing a lot of autographs.

The three week fall meet is billed as a prep for November’s Breeders Cup.  As a result, a number of the best jockeys in horse racing, will be getting a mount at Keeneland in October.  Keeneland Marketing Christa Marrilla says patrons can purchase a jockey autograph book, with the proceeds going to a fund for permanently disabled jockeys.

“So, five dollars, you can this full color wonderful autograph book and the jockeys will be on hand to autograph those at our signing that we do on October 17th, but they’re also very willing to give you an autograph any time you just run into them in the paddock or you out at the track kitchen,” said Marrilla.

Tailgating is again expanding at the Keeneland race track.  The track has long made the grassy parking lot known as “The Hill” available to tailgate parties.  During this meet, KeenelandMarrilla says “the hill” will also host tailgate parties on Fridays.

“We’re gonna have a large jumbotron up on the hill.  On Saturdays, it will have split screens, so you can watch SEC football, watch the races, there’s a betting tent, so you can go and place wages.  There’s actually live clerks in the betting tent,” added Marrilla.

Also, new this fall is a Keeneland app for smart phones.  Marrilla says it can help race goers with their wagers.
