U of L to Join Atlantic Coast Conference

The University of Louisville will leave the Big East Conference and join the Atlantic Coast Conference, according to ESPN. U of L would become the sixth former Big East school to leave for the ACC, according to ESPN.com. The sports network reports ACC presidents and chancellors voted to add U of L Wednesday morning to replace Maryland which had announced its departure for the Big Ten in 2014.Sources told ESPN that Louisville will join the ACC in 2014 and will likely have to negotiate an out-clause with the Big East.

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer issued a brief statement from his office.

"This is a fantastic development for the university, the city, and the state. All of the hard work over the years from UofL Athletics on the fields and courts and the administration with academic achievement has paid off big time!" the mayor said.
