State Officials Modify Child Care Regulations

State officials are announcing new regulations designed to increase child care capacity but also better ensure compliance of coronavirus related guidelines.

State Health and Family Services Secretary Eric Friedlander offered details during Monday’s briefing at the state capitol.  That includes a 25 hundred dollar startup incentive. “And what we hope is people as they experience this NTI or this working together that they may want to become registered or certified child care providers.  So we’re going to provide some funding as some support to get those folks registered and certified as ongoing child care providers,” said Friedlander

Other changes in the new regulations include expanding the maximum number of allowed children from ten to 15 in licensed child care facilities.

Governor Beshear is asking Kentuckians to prepare for the upcoming holiday weekend with coronavirus precautions in mind.  Beshear said the state saw a significant jump in cases coming out of the Fourth of July weekend.  The governor said the call for a maximum of ten people at residential social gatherings remains in place.  “This is just one year.  Right, it’s just one Labor Day that we’re asking this for.  Of all the Labor Days in our life, one in every hundred year pandemic.  Let’s please try to do this one a little differently and a little safer”  said Beshear.

Citing lab closures on the weekend, Governor Beshear announced 381 new cases of COVID-19 and three additional deaths.
