Four weeks from now, Kentuckians are expected to experience a new day as it relates to coronavirus. Governor Beshear said starting June 11 the mask mandate and all capacity limitations will be lifted.
Beshear’s announcement comes following word from the CDC that vaccinated citizens no longer need to wear masks indoors or outdoors with a few exceptions. State Public Health Commissioner Steven Stack admitted today has a different feeling. “Walking into the capitol this morning, it’s the first time I think all of us have seen each other’s faces without masks in a long time, so I think the emotion sort of captures how meaningful this is and it does sort of feel like there’s a new day dawning out there,” said Stack.
The governor said the June 11date provides time for 12-to-15 year-olds to get shots along with others who have yet to be vaccinated.
“One month also gives notice and time to everyone else who has not received their shot of hope. Right now we have over a half a million doses ready to go into people’s arms. Anyone can schedule an appointment and everyone should,” explained Beshear.
Beshear said some businesses may still require masks and he said some people may choose to continue masking. And the governor thanked Kentuckians for their kindness, compassion, sacrifice, and faith in him.
