Lexington officials are planning to “makeover” Lexington’s five downtown pedestrian walkways.
Details were discussed Tuesday during a Downtown Lexington Management District budget presentation before the Urban County Council.
Property owners within a several block area of Lexington’s core pay a designated tax to support targeted cleanup, safety measures, and downtown ambassadors.
Downtown Lexington Management District Board Chair Jim Frazier says work on the pedways will begin later this year.
“We’re going to clean them up. We’re going to spruce them up. We’re going to re-carpet. Paint them. Make them a canvass. Light them up. And put some good signage up for people out of town,” explained Frazier.
Frazier says the refurbishing of the pedways is expected to cost a little more than $200,000. He says funding support also comes from VisitLex, which aims to promote the city to attract visitors and grow the local economy.
