Kentucky Exceeds 2000 COVID Related Deaths

Stu Johnson

Kentucky has reached another troubling milestone during the current coronavirus pandemic.  The state has now exceeded 2000 deaths over the past nine months.

Governor Beshear is reviewing whether the new restrictions implemented November 18th have helped rein in growing cases.  The governor said Thursday there are no plans to extend an indoor dining ban beyond December 13th. “Could something crazy happen before then? Potentially, but again, we don’t see any extension right now of the closing of in-person dining,” said Beshear.

Beshear said the mask mandate has been extended again.  And the governor reported 3,895 new cases of coronavirus and a positivity rate at 10%.
Governor Beshear said he’s hoping Congress acts on another round of coronavirus relief funding by the end of December.  But, during the briefing, the governor added it’s hard to have faith in such a vote, since there’s been a need for so long.  “We’re trying to make contingency plans on how we could get through January, if that buys some more time for them to do the right thing because we just can’t let everything it takes to fight this virus fall off a cliff,” explained Beshear.

As an example, the governor said if the state was going to stop using a laboratory for testing, that notice needs to come a couple weeks in advance.
