Kentucky Community Supported Agriculture Fair Winds Up This Weekend

kyagr.com

Kentucky Department of Agriculture officials are hoping citizens across the Commonwealth will become more familiar with community supported agriculture opportunities.  A virtual CSA fair runs through this Sunday.  Agriculture Department Spokesman Sean Southard said it’s a way to connect Kentuckians with local farms.  “It’s really important that during this time of pandemic when you can’t get out, maybe some folks who don’t feel comfortable going to the farmer’s market, that they know that there are options and ways that they can still buy local during this time and that’s our message.  We want people to realize that just because we’re in a pandemic doesn’t mean you have to stop supporting local,” said Southard.

Purchasing a CSA share is a way for consumers to subscribe to local farms on a weekly bi-weekly, or monthly basis.  Last year’s Facebook event reached more than 123,000 people and highlighted more than 50 farms.  This week’s online fair includes about 80 farms.
