Governor Beshear Outlines Preparation For Coronavirus Vaccine

Governor Beshear says there are many decisions to make when it comes to the future distribution of a coronavirus vaccine.

During his daily briefing Tuesday, Beshear said the first bit of needed information is what will the state get and when will it arrive. “But, then you got to think about storage, physical distribution.  The fact that it’s going to be two separate shots over I think 21 days that has to be from the same manufacturer when there might be three or four different vaccines,” said Beshear.

Governor Beshear said he is seeing good response from coaches and administrators of high school sports when coronavirus affects a team.  Beshear noted a positive case carries a different impact on the high school level compared to college athletics.  “College sports in the SEC they’re going to test athletes three times a week and right now I don’t think there’s a requirement that our high school athletes are tested even once a week,” Beshear said.

Beshear addressed the milestone of 200,000 Americans lost to COVID-19.  He noted Kentuckians have, by and large, done, quote, “absolutely incredible things.”  He said that included wearing masks, social distancing, and not seeing older relatives at risk.  The governor added it’s important to keep doing those things.

The governor also reported 824 cases of coronavirus and seven new deaths.  Beshear said the positivity rate, as noted by his office, now stands at 4.52%?.
