Final Design Work Planned For Lexington's Town Branch Park

Private fundraising efforts to build a ten-acre green space public park in the heart of downtown Lexington are moving forward.  Town Branch Park Executive Director Allison Lankford says about 80% of the ultimate goal, or $25.4 million has been raised.

By years’ end Lankford said a final plan for the park should be in hand. “So, over the course of the year we’ll go through the final schematic design for the project and then finalize the construction documents.  And they’ll be a number of community engagement opportunities along the way for input,” said Lankford.

Lankford noted Town Branch Park, situated adjacent to the under-construction convention center, is expected to feature a ‘great lawn’ area suitable for 5000 people.  In addition to an amphitheater, the park will likely have a play area, an interactive water feature, and a dog park.

Lankford says fundraising thus far validates the project concept and vision.  “A public space where people can come together and interact with other people that might not otherwise come across or talk to.  That kind of shared space, shared experience is something we are all craving and we have all learned to value and appreciate more over the course of this last year for so many different reasons,” explained Lankford.

Construction could start next year and be completed in 2025.
