Lexington Mayor Loses Congressional Bid-Vows to Help McGrath in Her Fall Race

Stu Johnson

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray returns to his city hall duties after falling short in his bid to secure a seat in Congress.  Former Marine Fighter Pilot Amy McGrath easily defeated Gray and five others in yesterday’s Primary.

In addressing his supporters downtown last night, Gray urged them to get behind the democratic nominee.  “It was a spirited campaign and I know that Andy Barr is in for the fight of his life.  I am ready to help Amy and I want all of you to join me,” said Gray.

Gray thanked supporters in both urban county government and the private sector.  And the two term mayor, who was the state’s first openly gay mayor, expressed his thanks to the LGBTQ community.  In his formal remarks, Gray said, quote, “you’ve always had my back and it’s been the honor of my life to represent our community.”
