The lockdown and isolation conditions of the pandemic worsened existing student mental health issues and introduced others. In this latest in our series on youth mental health, Terry Brooks, executive director of Kentucky Youth Advocates, talks with Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman about her efforts to persuade adults to listen to the experts: the students, themselves. We hear from student Spandana Pavuluri who led the Lt. Governor’s initiative. Herald-Leader Government Accountability reporter John Cheves discusses a crisis in nursing home inspections in Kentucky. And as Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras prepare for a season opener, we hear from guest composer Quinn Mason.

Tom Martin hosts Eastern Standard, a weekly radio magazine of interviews and stories about interesting people, places, and things happening in the Commonwealth.
