Eastern Standard

The science behind the misery: State Geologist William Hanesberg and UK hydrologist Chris Barton on how the topography of Eastern Kentucky’s mountain region contributes to destructive and deadly flash flooding. Lindsay Kampfer joins us from BlueGrass Care Navigators on how the flooding was so harrowing for many hospice patients - and, a new program to provide age-in-place care. We hear about recovery and rebuilding efforts from Gerry Roll and Lora Smith of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky. And, we learn some things about the physical and emotional impacts of racism from Dr. Candace Hargons, chair of counseling psychology at UK. Dr. Hargons is Gerald Smith’s guest for this latest in our series on racial justice and equality.
