Funding cuts ended Jefferson County’s family drug court nearly a decade ago, but a group has raised enough money to open a new court next month.
It’s called the Jefferson Family Recovery Court, and its goal is to help families fighting drug addiction by offering them wrap-around services. David Hawpe is the co-chair of the Jefferson Family Recovery Court campaign, and he says the city needs a court like this one.
“Instead of blowing up families by just simply sending someone to prison, what we hope is to keep the family intact while the offender recovers.”
