In part two of our conversation with U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, Kevin Willis of member station WKYU asked the Louisville Republican what he thought of this week’s news that President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have talked about a face-to-face meeting.
U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell says he’s not opposed to President Trump meeting face-to-face with his Russian counterpart.
The White House has confirmed that Trump and Vladimir Putin recently spoke about a possible bi-lateral meeting.
McConnell said he’s fine with the idea, as long as Trump understands that the Russian leader isn’t a friend of the U.S.
“Well, there’s nothing wrong with meeting with Vladimir Putin. Ronald Reagan met with Gorbachev. So I don’t have any problem with meeting. I just it’s important to be clear-eyed about what the Russians are up to, and they’re up to no good.”
Trump is also planning to meet face-to-face with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un.
McConnell says he’s willing to support such a move by Trump.
