The latest edition of the Chevrolet Corvette has debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Corvette is manufactured at the General Motors assembly plant in Bowling Green. The latest version of the iconic car to be produced in southern Kentucky is the Corvette Z-R-1.
Harlan Charles is the Corvette project manager for Chevrolet. He said there are some interesting innovations.
“One of the neat features on the hood is what we call a ‘halo design’. There’s actually a hole on the hood that the engine supercharger cover pokes through—and we did that in order to maintain a lower line of sight out of the front, because it’s a taller engine. And the neat thing about it is you can actually see the top of the engine vibrating through the hood while you’re driving.”
Charles said engineers learned a great deal from the race-car version of the new Corvette during its recent success on the international racing circuit.
He said some of the technology used in the racing version of the Z-R-1 is also found in the new Corvettes available to the public.
