Effective November 1, Eastern Kentucky University employees will receive an across-the-board salary increase of 2.5 percent. President Michael Benson made the announcement Wednesday.
In a campus wide email, Benson said, “While facilities are important and the quality of our academic programs critical, it is our people who constitute our greatest asset.”
The increase, for all full-time and part-time benefited employees, applies to staff members who were employed on or before Aug. 1 of this year and for faculty who were employed on or before Aug. 15 of this year.
The last such increase for EKU employees, also 2.5 percent, was announced shortly after Benson became president in 2013. Prior to that increase, EKU employees had received no raises for three years.
The news comes as state general fund support for colleges and universities continues to decrease. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Kentucky, Oklahoma and West Virginia are the only states that have cut funding to higher education over each of the last two years.
