Mountain Parkway Expansion Work Could Prompt Additional Traffic Delays

mtnparkway.com

Motorists traveling along the Mountain Parkway expansion work sites near Salyersville could experience a few additional traffic delays over the next couple weeks.

Expansion Project Manager Marshall Carrier says there is a lane reduction on the Burning Fork Bridge leading into Salyersville’s restaurant row.  He says, in time, four lanes will be opened through the business district. “That was always the question was how are you going to thread four lanes of traffic into an existing area that doesn’t accommodate that?” asked Carrier.

Carrier says a little over a third of the 46 mile widening and extension Mountain Parkway Project has been constructed.   But, there are current lapses in funding which could affect the long term project schedule.  “We’ve done the design, we’ve done the environmental work up front and we’re just ready, waiting on authorization of construction funds to move forward with another big section,” explained Carrier.

Carrier says the $750 million improvement project was initially scheduled for completion in the 2021 to 2022 time frame.
