Severe weather expected throughout Kentucky later this week

The National Weather Service says severe weather is expected to pass through Kentucky later this week as part of a cold front.

Severe thunderstorms are expected Wednesday evening through Thursday in most of the state, with the potential for more showers through Sunday.

Chuck Greif is a meteorologist for the NWS branch in Jackson. He says to stay weather aware in case those heavy rains bring more floods.

“We’ll likely have to be issuing a flood watch that will extend all the way into the weekend. Really, one of the longer flood watches we probably ever issued to cover the full duration the way the pattern’s setting up,” Greif said.

Greif says it’s important to have an evacuation plan in case of high water levels. He also says it’s important to have a supply kit of essentials like food and water on hand. A list of what to have on hand during an evacuation is available here.
