The public affairs officer for the Lexington Veterans Affairs Healthcare System did not respond to a question about whether any Lexington VA employees were part of the mass firings by the Trump Administration.

The local impact of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ firing of more than 24-hundred employees at VA facilities around the country remains unclear.

The public affairs officer for the Lexington VA did not respond when we asked if any Lexington VA employees were fired. She did release a statement announcing VA Secretary Doug Collins will visit their Hazard community clinic Friday. Monday, the VA announced the firing of more than 1,400 employees in what were claimed to be “non-mission critical positions.” Two weeks before, 1,000 employees who’d worked for the VA for less than two years were fired. Lexington’s Veterans Affairs Healthcare System has two campuses in Lexington and community clinics in Morehead, Somerset, Berea and Hazard.
