Eastern Kentucky University is rolling out a new cybercrime program, courtesy of a million-dollar donation by Commonwealth Credit Union. EKU officials made the announcement Wednesday. Maggie Abney is the director of EKU’s Evans Banking and Financial Services program.
“It will prepare students, which could be traditional degree seeking students as well as non-traditional non degree seeking students to be aware of cybercrime, different types of cybercrime that exist and the volume of vulnerabilities that exist in financial institutions.”
Abney said the university certificate will require completion of 7 classes, which can be in-person and online. School officials say this program is the first of its kind in the U.S. Abney said the program will help students interested in several different careers.
“So current students who are majoring in, you know, specific interest areas are IT students that want to work in cybersecurity that might want to specialize in financial institutions, cybersecurity, also, banking students, financial services, students that want to go and work in the financial services industry.”
Congressman Barr, who chairs the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy, said such studies are much-needed.
