Today's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration in Richmond will feature a march for the homeless and a virtual educational program.

The Reverend Mitchell E. Brown is president of the Richmond-Madison County NAACP chapter. He said one of their partners is the Madison County Tenants Union.

"They have said their evictions have been rising. And they worry about our neighbors, where they sleep at night, so they're committed to building power to address the root causes of poverty and homelessness, so that everyone in our community has housing needs met."

Staging and donation collections will begin at noon at the First Christian Church parking lot at 412 West Main Street. Brown said the march begins at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a 6 p.m. program – online.

"So, we have various videos, maybe 20 seconds a piece of different several young people responding to that question, “What would Martin ask of me today?”

The virtual program will be carried on the Facebook page of First Baptist Church Richmond – Francis Street.
