Lexington officials want residents to pay attention to leaf disposal. City leaders decided earlier this fall to stop leaf vacuuming across town. So, homeowners are faced with options ranging from mulching leaves up to placing them in Lenny yard waste containers, to bagging them. Lexington Environmental Quality and Public Works Commissioner Nancy Albright said a fourth crew is making a sweep through neighborhoods.
“We’re just making an extra concerted effort with a separate crew coming by, just dedicated to making sure that we pick up all of the bags of leaves and of course all the regular bundles of sticks and things,” said Albright.
Leaf shoots are now available for those easily collapsible tall brown leaf bags. Albright said shoots can be delivered to neighborhood associations.
“We will easily and gladly work with you on trying to help deliver 50 or 75 or whatever to a single point within a neighborhood for them to distribute,” said Albright.
Supportive leaf shoots for brown leaf bags are available at several city-related spots around Lexington. That includes City Hall, the Senior Center, the E-Waste Center, and various fire stations.
