A first-term Lexington city council member is signaling his intention to run for the top job in urban county government. Sixth District Council Member David Kloiber has filed paperwork with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. That paves the way to raise money for the mayor’s race. “After being in Council for the last year I’ve seen a lot of things that I think that I could help to make better. So, I want to throw my hat in the ring to see if I can help to make the city a safer and better place for my kids to grow up in,” said Kloiber.

Kloiber said he has not filed with the Fayette County Clerk’s office or collected the required signatures yet. The president of the non-profit education focused Kloiber Foundation said there will be more information in the coming weeks.

Mayor Linda Gorton announced this past summer she would seek a second term. At that time Gorton said she anticipated a number of opponents. The election would be next year.
