The Lexington City Council will resume meetings the second week of August, following a summer break. One of the items certainly to get attention is how to spend $120 million dollars in federal stimulus money.
Sixth District Councilman David Kloiber said decisions will need to be made on how to divvy up the funding. “We’ve done a lot of trying to narrow it down to the types of areas we think would have the biggest impact, where we think we’re going to have a lasting effect on the city,” said Kloiber.
Kloiber noted consideration will also be given to leveraging private funds for something he termed “transformational” for Lexington. One project the first term council member has expressed an interest in is construction of a large sports complex. Such a facility with a proposed price tag of about $40 million has been discussed as a possibility in Shillito Park.
